Magpul® Back-Up Sights (MBUS®) Pro

When situations arise and a shooter’s primary rifle optic malfunctions, gets damaged, or loses battery power, it could become a life or death situation. However, running Magpul® MBUS® Pro sights as a back-up will keep the shooter in the fight and confident in their weapon. The shooter can quickly reengage offensively when resorting back to old school standard iron sights. However, the MBUS® Pro front and rear sight combination are superior to traditional iron sights.

 

The MBUS® (Magpul® Back-Up Sight) Pro is a corrosion-resistant all-steel sighting solution that delivers maximum functionality and strength and mounts to a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny or STANAG 4694 rail with minimum bulk. LiteFighter® has developed a windbreaker attachment that can easily be placed on the inner tent to convert the 3-season military tent into a 4-season shelter for cold/windy conditions. The windbreaker can easily be taken off in warmer climates to reduce the weight and allow for more breathability. The inner tent tub floor and rainfly cover materials are all polyurethane coated; every seam has been carefully sealed with seam tape to make the system completely waterproof.

The new TCI™ Liberator® IV, V, and HP headsets meet law enforcement and special operations forces’ current demands and requirements.

Liberator® headsets’ key features include electronic hearing protection to provide full-spectrum environmental sound and incoming radio communication simultaneously. The Liberator® IV and V Tactical Headsets provide exceptional communications and electronic hearing protection during typical and critical situations. The ability to maintain peripheral hearing and amplify potential danger signs and audio clues from the environment are unique features of Liberator® systems and necessary for tactical missions. Less progressive systems “clip” or “cut-off” ambient sounds while the hearing protection is activated, impeding situational awareness for the user and often negatively affects incoming communications. The TCI™ ADSAE technology provides 360 degrees of ambient sound reproduction. This technology is the most accurate method of environmental sound replication, threat identification, and threat localization.  It uses dual external microphones that continually process ambient sounds and instantaneously compress impulse noise. With up to 29 dBa of attenuation, the headset protects the user from exposure to harmful static-state and impulse sounds by compressing dangerous sound levels to approximately 82 dBa. The headsets feature a fixed behind-the-head comfort fit, and the headset suspension provides a comfortable fit with any helmet type. Liberator® IV Tactical Headsets come with compact single-channel tactical Push-to-Talk (PTT), with a quick disconnect radio interface cable. These radio interface cables are the same cables used on the TCI™ Liberator® 3 & 5 dual comm systems. The system includes a factory mutually approved radio interface connection, assuring the connection precisely meets radio model specifications. This model provides radio interface cables for military radios using a U329 connection and for the Motorola® XTS® 5000/PRC153. The switch is protected inside the PTT housing and is easily accessible in all conditions and wearing gloves. The raised PTT enclosure protects the switch from accidental activation. This PTT is ambidextrous, includes a 17″ coiled radio cable, and requires no end-user modification. This Liberator® V tactical headset comes with a compact dual tactical PTT and a compact single-channel PTT. Both PTT devices utilize the same common quick disconnect cables, including a factory mutually approved radio interface connection, assuring the connection precisely meets radio model specifications. The dual communications PTT is wired TEMPEST compliant and includes features to prevent accidental transmission of potential classified traffic over an unclassified radio net. The enclosure and custom aerospace aluminum switches are IP68 rated and have a cycle count of 1 million activations. The switches feature a raised tactile indicator for high and low bands and are easily distinguished in all conditions and wearing gloves. The SOPMOD Buttstock

The Lewis Machine & Tool®, LMT®, SOPMOD buttstock was derived out of the Special Operations Peculiar Modifications program.  It was a true public/private partnership that teamed private business to manufacture new solutions to increase weapon performance for Special Operations Force’s requirements.  One of the block 2 program goals was to create an improved buttstock that would advance ergonomic and performance standards.

 

LMT® was the commercial force behind the development of the SOPMOD buttstock.  The stock incorporates an enhanced cheek weld and a rubberized buttpad.  The better angle on the cheek helps gain a more natural shooting position and incorporates two watertight tubes for battery storage. Together the enhanced cheek weld and rubberized buttpad reduce the overall felt recoil and improve second shot consistency.

 

The stock utilizes glass-reinforced polymer that is stronger than a standard M4 buttstock.  The tube is cut to military specified extension tubes and has a tight tolerance to eliminate any rattle or sound.  The gen2 SOPMOD stock incorporates two quick detach sling swivels for sling attachment.

SureFire® SOCOM Suppressors – The Standard-Bearer

In 2002 SureFire® created its suppressor division to redefine suppressor technology, materials, and construction. Starting with the finest U.S. mill-certified high-temperature alloys available, SureFire® engineered the most advanced and fail-safe suppressor baffle system ever devised. It met all their ambitious criteria for sound, flash, and dust signature reduction while remaining compact in size, lightweight, and supremely durable. They torture-tested every design relentlessly to ensure that it met their goals while consistently producing a sub-1 MOA shift in point of impact compared to the same weapon unsuppressed, regardless of the number of attach-detach cycles. Their patented front plate design virtually eliminated the first-round flash signature. Their patented Fast-Attach® mounting system provided a rock-solid interface with the weapon and fast and easy detachment after extensive firing. The philosophy at SureFire® has always been that durability, signature reduction, accuracy, repeatability, and sound suppression are the most important factors to consider when evaluating a suppressor design for combat or duty use.

Once they were satisfied, they had met their own goals; they summated their suppressors for the SOCOM suppressor solicitation. The SOCOM suppressor solicitation was the most demanding suppressor trial ever performed by the U.S. Military. In 2011 SureFire® was awarded the SOCOM Suppressor contract for $23.3 million.

 

In 2017 they were awarded another $10 million contract.

This contract is the second award based on the most rigorous and extensive suppressor selection in USSOCOM history.

In 2019 The military established NSN’s for the SOCOM556-RC2.

 

SureFire® makes SOCOM model suppressors for weapons systems from 5.56 to .50 Caliber weapons.

There are four SOCOM series models in 5.56 caliber; SB2, RC2, the Mini2, and MG. All of these come in both black and dark earth. All of these suppressors except the Mini2 have NSN’s assigned to them.

There is additionally four SOCOM series models in 7.62 caliber; SB2, RC2, TI, and MG. The MG model has an assigned NSN.

The SOCOM300-SPS was designed for the 300 Blackout, but works for all calibers from 5.56 thru 300WM.

The SOCOM338 TI is 9.9 inches long and weighs 22.0 OZ, but it is a beast at handling the 338 Lapua and has an assigned NSN.

The SOCOM 50 SPS at 14.4 inches long and 86 oz is a large suppressor to be sure, but it also accommodates the large 50 caliber round. The SOCOM 50 SPS delivers up to a 99% reduction in flash to conceal the shooter’s location.

The newest kids on the block are the SOCOM65-RC2 and the SOCOM65-TI. These suppressors are for 6.5mm, 6mm, .260 calibers. The SOCOM65-RC2 is the 6.5 mm/6 mm/.260-caliber version of the U.S. Special Operations Command selected suppressor for the Mk13 Sniper Rifle.

Tactical Bump Helmets, Refined

In the modern ecosystem of tactical gear, helmets have evolved employing critical real estate to mount communication gear, lights, strobes, face-shields, and night vision systems. MAGPUL® Gen M3 Magazine

With a few modifications to the combat-proven MOE® (MAGPUL® Original Equipment) M2 PMAG®, the Gen M3™ takes a great design and adds additional improvements. The Gen M2 MOE® and the Gen M3™ are primarily designed for the AR15/M4 weapons. The magazine includes a pop-off Impact/Dust Cover that minimizes debris intrusion and protects against potential damage to the top cartridge during storage and transit.

Trijicon Machine Gun Reflex Sight

The Trijicon MGRS® (Machine Gun Reflex Sight) is a non-magnified optic that mounts to the M2 and M240 machine guns.

As reflex sights and red dot sights capabilities become more advanced they are becoming a standard piece of gear and equipment across the board on multiple platforms.

The Trijicon MGRS® is prime military technology intended to aid the machine gunner in rapid target acquisition and engagement with an illuminated, 35 MOA red circle that allows gunners to keep “both eyes open” from a natural shooting position. Mastodon Design Scourge Antenna for the Dismounted Soldier Kit

Today’s soldier is often required to carry multiple radio systems for a single mission.  As a retired Combat Controller, it didn’t take long to see the many benefits of swapping traditional handheld tactical radio antennas with Mastodon antennas.  Additionally, most “next-generation” radios have dual channels and GPS; therefore, a single device may require three or more antennas.  On today’s battlefield, and certainly the next contested/ near-peer fight, soldiers will depend on a multitude of communication networks and Video Downlink (VDL) feeds to enhance combat effectiveness.  While these communication networks improve situational awareness, force protection, and lethality, they also can be cumbersome and impractical for a dismounted soldier who must carry multiple antennas to utilize them.

 

Traditional tactical radio antennas snag on equipment, interfere with line of sight, and create a sizeable visual profile of the soldier, making them an easier target.  Many soldiers fold the antennas or remote them to their back to reduce signature and interference with their primary mission tasks, but these “fixes” significantly reduce antenna performance.

 

Mastodon Design’s RF engineers have decades of experience designing tactical radios and antennas.  Mastodon Design’s Scourge antennas are a family of flexible, ultra-lightweight antennas designed for tactical military operations.  Utilizing the help of real-world SOF inputs, the Scourge antenna was designed to be routed through MOLLE and uses a TNC connector to work with fielded tactical radios.  The streamlined design allows soldiers to weave the antenna through their equipment to reduce target profile, save space, and prevent snags while increasing their communication signal gains. These antennas are currently being fielded by USSOCOM units and provide increased range and performance with a drastic reduction in size, weight, and profile.

The Scourge antennas work with the dismounted soldier kit in a way that does not impede their movement, create snag hazards, or reduce antenna performance.  Additionally, the antenna’s placement over the soldier’s shoulder alleviates poor performance in the prone position. Whereas, this design improves omnidirectional performance caused by body masking.  This positioning also eliminates the “cone of silence” that occurs directly above a traditional antenna, a common problem with helicopter operations.

Viasat: Communications-on-the-Move, Mobile Satellite Broadband, No Matter Where You Are

If you are in the military tactical communications systems business, you’ve seen broadband “Communications-on-the-Move” (COTM) promised by many satellite terminal vendors.  Many of those vendors do not tell you that their ability to provide said services depends on tenuous lashups with satellite companies, exorbitant bandwidth costs, and dead spots in your required area of coverage.  I’ve planned missions for and used many satellite terminals over my active duty years, but only one mobile broadband satellite solutions provider has delivered consistently:  Viasat.  Their success comes from their end-to-end integration capabilities, including satellite, terminal, and managed services.

 

Viasat has built and launched a high capacity, commercial Ka-band satellite constellation that is still growing.  In 2022 Viasat-3 will launch.  Once fully completed, Viasat will be able to provide complete global connectivity and provide high capacity satellite WiFi anywhere at “60 times more affordable” and “15 times more capacity than DoD satellites”. Viasat has been the lead satellite modem developer for over a decade.  Their modems are the de facto DoD-standard.  You can tailor your terminal for EBEM, LinkwayS2, or CBM-400 modems, with CBM-400 providing quad-band (X, C, Ka, Ku) access, diverse network topologies (including full mesh), and the most bandwidth (up to 400 Mbps (waveform dependent)).  Viasat offers several preconfigured satellite terminals for air, land, and maritime uses, but you can tailor your terminal to your specific needs.

 

Along with the satellite modem development, Viasat has been a leader in communications security equipment development and communications protocol development.  For example, the NSA Type 1 KG-255X HAIPE Inline Encryptor has enabled faster network speeds (2Gbps) for secure networks up to TS/SCI.  It can operate in Layer 3 HAIPE mode to maintain interoperability with their older, but still widely used, KG-250X, or as a VLAN/Ethernet tunneling on Layer 2.

 

Finally, there are the various services they provide.  You can choose to run your own network and only call for training, technical support, or repair/warranty support.  In this complex communication environment, with rapid deployments, using Network Operations and Management services from Viasat on a private IP network is a better choice.  Viasat’s Network Operations and Management services can provide:

Stalker – The Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Targeting System

The Safran Optics 1 STALKER is a lightweight, handheld, day/night target acquisition, surveillance, and reconnaissance device that is capable of locating targets even in adverse weather conditions. It is extremely lightweight and has an intuitive user-friendly interface. It is reliable in all weather conditions and allows operators unprecedented situational awareness for a variety of missions. It also has outstanding C4I (command, control, communication, computers, and intelligence) capabilities, along with multiple interfaces including RS-232 and USB for data exchange with other devices. It has three observation modes to detect targets: Direct View Day Optics, Low Light CMOS Optics, and LWIR Thermal Imager.

STALKER is a similar device to the Optics 1 MOSKITO TI, but has an integrated SAASM (Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module) GPS. Electro-Hydraulic Tactical Breaching

In the early 2000s, Israel faced terror attacks daily; suicide terrorists murdered hundreds of Israeli civilians by exploding buses and bombing restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs.

 

The Israeli Defense Forces faced the challenge of eliminating terror cells in highly crowded urban areas mixed with uninvolved civilians. Israeli Special Forces quickly realized that the classic doctrine of targeting terrorists was ineffective. And the threat to the soldiers on the peripheral of a building was too high.

 

Initially, the team used explosives for breaching.  But quickly, this technique exploited its weaknesses. Variations in buildings and entry points made planning difficult and required the team to carry multiple explosive charges.  Planning with the proper explosives was hard to design effectively.  Heavy metal doors with numerous security bars were prevalent, and the lack of quality intelligence on the doors specifically led to the use of overweight charges.  The resulting explosion often harmed any uninvolved people inside the target facility and reduced the operator’s visibility due to dust and particles flying in the compound.

Additionally, when the charge exploded, the team location was exposed. The terrorists would start fighting inside the compound and utilize nearby buildings for an ambush, making extraction more difficult.

 

A new tactic was needed, better breaching teams and better breaching technology was required.  New breaching technology would allow the better use of the element of surprise.  The solution was the creation of a quiet set of hydraulic breaching tools. Quiet breaching into terrorist compounds permitted the operators to gain entry and use their houses to cover the periphery threat.

With these new hydraulic tools, you could breach reinforced doors.  And with no explosive, you could maintain the element of surprise, and not injure any uninvolved civilians. Hydraulic tools were effective; however, they suffered from significant weaknesses as well. The devices were from different worlds of operations, often from firefighters and emergency rescue. They were extremely heavy and bulky and not designed for tactical missions. Each item needed to be carried with the hands, thereby diminishing the lethality of the operator.  Also, the tools were special purpose and could not be changed as the situation changed.

 

In 2006, one breaching team of the Israeli Special Forces took the hydraulic tools to the next evolution.  They worked with SAN Hitech Ltd, SAN, a privately held defense engineering company. The engineering team with SAN utilized invaluable operational inputs to create an entire suite of door-breaching options within one backpack. The electro-hydraulic pump with a brushless motor and flexible oil reservoir is mounted inside a purpose-built backpack and weighs less than 20lbs.  The system generates 9,000 psi, which creates 6.2 tons of lifting force and 23 tons of cutting force.  The whole system is very discreet at only 60 decibels. The system has been MIL-STD 810F and CE certified.

 

The SAN breaching system has now been in operational deployment for over ten years.  In that time, SAN has become the market leader in electro-hydraulic tactical breaching tools.  SAN continues to push the boundaries of tactical breaching to create the right solution according to the dynamic operational reality with full collaboration with its customers.
